After three breast cancer diagnoses across three decades, I’ve learned one powerful truth: life is still beautiful, even while living with Stage 4 cancer.
It all began in 1994 with a left breast DCIS diagnosis, followed by a mastectomy and latissimus flap reconstruction. In 1998, I was diagnosed again, this time with invasive lobular carcinoma in the right breast, while living in Paris. I returned to New Jersey for surgery and underwent chemotherapy, continuing part of my treatment at the American Hospital in Paris.
In 2014, my breast cancer metastasized to my lung, marking a Stage 4 diagnosis. Since then, I’ve been receiving Herceptin and Perjeta infusions every three weeks.
Aside from these setbacks, I have a wonderful life. I am still married to my high school sweetheart. We have four children and nine grandchildren who all give us immense joy! My husband and I have traveled the world and raised a beautiful family. As my mom used to say, “Don’t lose your today's worrying about tomorrow.” So, I hope you too can find a way to deal with your diagnosis while not being robbed of this amazing journey of life.
