Objective
The primary objective of the Hopeful Hearts Program Coordinator position is to provide compassionate support and empower parents and guardians of pediatric cancer patients by fostering hope and connection through personalized one-on-one peer mentor matches. Reporting to Cancer Hope Network’s Director of Programs & Advocacy, this role plays a key part in advancing the organization’s mission by ensuring that families navigating the challenges of pediatric cancer have access to empathetic, informed, and reliable peer support.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage the peer matching process between parents and guardians of pediatric cancer patients and trained Hopeful Hearts parent mentors.
- Conduct intake assessments for Hopeful Hearts support seekers, ensuring accurate data entry, timely follow-up, and a seamless onboarding experience.
- Provide compassionate support to parents and guardians by offering referrals to vetted external resources when appropriate.
- Deliver administrative and operational support to the Director of Programs & Advocacy, contributing to the smooth functioning of the Hopeful Hearts program.
- Support Cancer Hope Network’s broader program, helping to advance organizational goals and strategic priorities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned, contributing to a collaborative and mission-driven team environment.
Qualifications & Attributes
- Minimum two years of experience in patient navigation, social work, mental health support, or other healthcare-related position.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and solve problems.
- Experience with managing program logistics, tracking data, and maintaining accurate records.
- Familiarity with CRM systems, spreadsheets, and other administrative tools.
- Bilingual English/Spanish fluency preferred.
- Empathy, compassion, and the ability to handle sensitive and emotional situations with
professionalism. - Basic knowledge of pediatric cancer diagnoses, treatment journeys, and the emotional, logistical, and other challenges faced by families.
- Familiarity with the core values and best practices of peer support, including active listening, boundary setting, confidentiality, and empowerment-based communication.
- Awareness of trauma-informed approaches when working with families experiencing medical and emotional distress.
- Understanding of how to support families from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds with sensitivity and respect.
- Understanding of nonprofit program delivery, operations, mission alignment, and collaboration within a values-driven organization.
