Meet the woman that runs it all, our Executive Director Cynthia Gutierrez Bernstein. Cynthia has been with the organization for 14 years and has been the Executive Director since January 2019.
Cynthia is from Nicaragua and moved to the United States when she was 17. When Cynthia was younger she wanted to be like her grandfather, a physician and missionary. Cynthia’s Papi set an example of service for his grandkids and was her personal superhero. Cynthia wanted to be in the healthcare field like her grandfather and after growing through the experience of her father having cancer when she was in middle school, Cancer Hope Network was a perfect fit!
Cynthia began her career at CHN as a Program Coordinator and was promoted to Programs Director in 2008. After more than a decade working with our Support Volunteers and leading the team who creates matches, it was a natural transition to Executive Director.
Cynthia’s empathy allows her to help others “see that they are really not all that different from each other and we can all help the bigger WE if we are not scared of talking to each other.” She believes that “the act of pairing one survivor to one patient is simple but the effect can make such a dramatic impact.”
